Social Security

Resources Links

Overview

Social Security documents provide many clues and while they only cover a certain time period, and are only available for those who registered/applied they are worth reviewing. The National Archives (Archives.gov) provide three different databases (applications, death & claims) all covering 1936 to 2007.

To make your search a bit easier we have built a search tool below using Tableau.

Start by entering a complete surname (last name) or portion of a surname and press enter.

After you press enter, the Tableau program will present a list of matches and for each surname and three links to the resources (the small square icons next to the surname).

The links, in order, from left to right are
1) Social Security Applications, (select the blue square in the table to bring up application)
2) Social Security Death Records and (select the orange square in the table to bring up death)
3) Social Security Claims. (select the red square in the table to bring up claims)

Simply click on the small boxes to the right of the surname to launch the search on the National Archives site. Once there you can refine your search by adding in first name and date filters.
